“It becomes easier for me to accept myself as a decidedly imperfect person, who by no means functions at all times in the way in which I would like to function. This must seem to some like a very strange direction in which to move. It seems to me to have value because the curious paradox is that when I accept myself as I am, then I change.”

-Carl Rogers

Existential Therapy

Cultural Compentency

I do my best to hold understanding and respect for the values, attitudes, beliefs, and experiences that differ across cultures. It is never your job to educate or have to over explain your culture to me. I engage in my own exploration and education regarding cultural experiences and history that are not familiar to me, then work with you to explore how prevalent your cultural background’s influence is in your life and how it integrates into your therapy.

I also hold the awareness that many cultures do not support or believe in therapy or mental health issues, this can make accessing support a complicated experience and I am happy to go at your pace and offer space to honor your experience as you take a step into the unknown and, in some circumstances, the forbidden.
